The Federal Commission for the Regulation of Utilities is extending credits in the 2024 budget, offering £450 to all domestic electricity customers. This credit is disbursed in three £150 installments. Eligible households received the first payment in Dec 2024, the second in Jan 2024, and the final installment is scheduled for March 2024.

The Government Electricity Credit Ireland applies to all domestic electricity accounts except those under low-usage accounts. Prepayment customers, advised to top up their meters, receive this allowance to prepare for increased energy use in winter. The automatic credit appears on your electricity bill, aiding low-income households during times of living cost crises.

How Much is it?

In the 2024 budget, the Government Electricity Credit Ireland has been set at £450, distributed in three instalments of £150 each. Over 2.25 million households in Ireland will benefit from this scheme, with the credited amount automatically deducted from eligible individual bills. While exact dates for the credit assistance haven’t been specified by the federal government, it will be provided based on eligibility.

For households with old pre-pay meters, redeeming separate electricity credits will span over a few days. Individuals contribute £10 towards their electricity bills. The Government Electricity Credit Ireland is automatically added as top-up assistance, consisting of a £90 credit and a £60 credit, providing a daily credit of £10 each.

Who is Eligible for Government Electricity Credit?

To qualify for the Government Electricity Credit Ireland, your household must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  1. Be registered as either an urban domestic customer or a rural domestic customer.
  2. Register with an electricity supplier in the Republic of Ireland and possess a unique meter point registration number found on your electricity bills.
  3. Not have a low-usage electricity account, which should exceed 150 kWh.

Meeting these federal criteria ensures anyone with an electricity account receives the payment. The Government Electricity Credit Ireland aids income households in coping with the increasing cost of living during rising inflation.

Electricity Credit Payment Dates

Although exact dates for the Government Electricity Credit Ireland haven’t been provided by Federal Ireland, the credits reflect on bills in Dec 2023, Jan 2024, and Mar 2024. Eligible beneficiaries will see the first credit installment between Dec 1 and Dec 6, 2023. The second installment occurs from Jan 1 to Jan 6, 2024, and the third credit installment is slated for Mar 1 to Mar 6, 2024.
