Some provinces have announced plans to increase minimum wages or tie them to inflation. For example, Prince Edward Island will raise its minimum wage to $15.40 on April 1, 2024, and then to $16.00 on October 1, 2024. Saskatchewan’s minimum wage will increase to $15 on October 1, 2024.

Starting September 1, 2024, Nova Scotia will extend workers’ compensation coverage to include those affected by chronic stress at work. As of January 1, 2024, Nunavut will have the highest minimum wage in Canada at $19 per hour, up from $16. Yukon currently boasts the highest provincial pay in Canada at $16.77 per hour.
Canada Hourly Wage Effective Dates
In 2024, minimum hourly wages are set to increase in several areas.
On April 1, Prince Edward Island will see a $0.40 raise, bringing the minimum wage to $15.40. Another increase of $0.60 is scheduled for October 1, reaching $16.
Starting April 1, Nova Scotia’s $15 minimum wage will have a yearly increase of one percent plus inflation.
Ontario, following its annual tradition of raising the minimum wage around this time, plans to implement an increase on October 1. Currently, Ontario’s minimum wage is $16.55 per hour.
