Grocery Rebate 2024-2025
Even though Canada’s inflation rate decreased to 3.4% in May, grocery prices are still rising quickly—they are up 9% from a year ago. In a report released last month, the Competition Bureau concluded that food prices are impacted by the lack of competition in the Canadian supermarket market. Therefore, the Grocery Rebate was included in the federal budget for 2024 as a way to deal with the rising cost of groceries.
To assist those with lower incomes in coping with the burden of rising food prices, the Canadian government implemented the Grocery Rebate. The new rebate was included in the federal budget for 2024 in an effort to better control the rising expense of living.
You must meet the requirements for the harmonized sales tax and the goods and services tax based on your 2021 tax return in order to participate in the debate. To receive the Grocery Rebate 2024–2025, you must file a tax return even if you are income-free.
The first of the quarterly rebate payments was made on July 5th, in conjunction with the subsequent quarterly GST/HST credit payment. Roughly 11 million eligible Canadians with household incomes below or equal to $38,000 or with individual incomes below $32,000 will receive the rebate.
How Much Grocery Rebate Will You Get?
According to the Canadian government, starting in January 2024, the grocery rebate will be double the amount of the GST/HST credit payment. The family’s circumstances in 2024 and your adjusted family net income are used to calculate the rebate amount. The maximum amount you will receive from the rebate is more clearly displayed in the payment below.
Notably, there is no application process required to receive the grocery rebate. Payments will be made to those who meet the requirements either by check or direct deposit. Eligible individuals must log into their CRA account to verify if they have received the rebate amount credited to their account.
